QUILT PRO

Design Concepts. Quilt-Pro decided to use the two most popular GUI systems for home computers. It was initially released when Windows 3 came out and was later released for the Macintosh as well. All the standard menu structures and key short-cuts are used.

File Format. Each quilt layout is saved as an individual file. Any custom designed block may be saved in a block directory. File size is roughly the same as an EQ4 project.

Features. The block tools, colour palette and fabric palette float on the design screen. Windows folders hold the quilt layout tools and options. Block design and quilt layout screens can be opened at the same time. The zoom feature is handy and rulers show the actual block or quilt size at all zoom levels.

Fabrics. Quilt-Pro comes with a small library of fabric designs in standard .bmp format. Additional fabrics are available free on a link from the Quilt-Pro web site. You can scan fabrics--or anything else for that matter, and save the scans as a 4-bit or 8-bit .bmp files in any directory. The fabric designs included with Quilt-Pro are small files which load quickly. Scanned fabric files are each about 100k in size. A few of these in your fabric palette on an inexpensive system may cause slow screen redraws. If you keep the scan area small, and save in 4-bit .bmp mode, the results are quite good. If your scanned image is too small, or on high zoom outs, like EQ4, Quilt-Pro simply "wallpapers" the file to fill the area.
